AGM highlights
Life Membership for retiring Chair Eddie Pram
Longtime club stalwart Eddie Pram was awarded Life Membership of the OCBC at the recent AGM. Eddie has been on or led just about every group that gets things done at Orere Point and has now stepped back after completing the last four years as OCBC Chair. His pastoral care for the Orere community through the Covid times will be among his many lasting legacies.
Community Award to the Tossell family
Rebekah and Kurt Tossell are behind just about everything good or useful that happens at Orere Point, and they do everything with a smile and hugely generous attitude. Really deserving Community Award winners, and a true asset to our community.

New Memberships and Key Renewals
The season’s started and so far just over half of our members have renewed for the year. Onto it please.
Your membership enables the OCBC to keep working on behalf of the Orere community, running our fishing fundraisers and community events like the Over 60s Lunch and Children’s Christmas Party, maintaining facilities we all enjoy, assisting with predator control programmes and helping our birdlife.
Membership and key renewals for 2023-24 can be done at the Orere Point General Store.
The OCBC appreciates the time and support Myrna and Mark are giving with this.

Update on matters raised at AGM
1. Boat ramp:
New magnetic fob opener working well. Keys can be returned and exchanged at the Orere Point General Store. Lost key charges will apply if keys are not returned as key sets will be retained and potentially sold if new system works out.
Specialist advice has been sought regarding the damage/maintenance to the ramps.
Potholes to be addressed on roadway to the ramps ahead of summer.
2. Positive contact made with Auckland Council with commitments made regarding tidying up the newly reinstated river wall area, additional rubbish bins at the Orere Beach Reserve and tree trimming as raised at the AGM.
3. Power outages
Vector’s Customer Manager advises that following damage to the line from Clevedon recently, the switch allowing power to get to Orere from a Counties Power line from Kaiaua failed, sparking a power cut for some Counties Power customers as well as a 13-hr outage at OP. We received assurance both Vector and Counties Power will maintain this alternative link, and that power supply to Orere Point is squarely ‘back on Vector’s radar’.
4. A major discussion point at the AGM was the use of the AT road reserve on Howard Road for parking, storage and trading by one resident. At the AGM the owner committed to members that he would shortly remove his property from the reserve and so return this land to the community.
