Anniversary Weekend fishing comp another great day

Our Anniversary Weekend fishing competition saw $1700 raised for the Kawakawa Orere First Responders who give great service to the Orere Point community. Sunshine, keen anglers and lots of bite action made for great fishing, and a very good crowd had gathered at the Orere Point beach reserve for the weigh-in and fish auction.

More than 120 tickets were sold and some great fish were weighed in ahead of the 2.00pm close off. Two lovely kingfish added to the attraction of the fish auction, and for buyers the opportunity to have their fish cleaned and filleted was an added bonus.

The day proved a great one for the Tou family, with Anita landing the biggest snapper in the Ladies category and Tere doing the same in the Men’s. Behind these grins below lie some of the very best fishing spots in the Firth

The committee and a group of generous volunteers kept the food and raffle sales rolling along, and more than 80 lucky attendees got to chow down on a famous Orere Point mussel fritter.

As always, we could not stage this event without the wonderful support of our sponsors and supporters. Delighted to post a photo of all of these generous people and businesses who enable us to provide prizes for every child as well as the best fisher folk on the day. When we can support them in return, let’s do so.

Our next OCBC fishing competition will be on Easter Sunday, April 4th. It’s the last day of daylight saving why not so see summer off with a top fun family day with the OCBC.
