All the signs are pointing to Easter Sunday being a great day for fishing and for everyone planning to be part of the OCBC Easter Fishing Competition that day.
Fishing starts from 6.00am, just ten minutes before low tide, meaning anglers have all morning with a rising tide and gentle to disappearing NW – Westerly breezes.
The weigh-in closes at 2.00pm and once the numbers have been tallied, the day’s prize winners are announced and the weighed-in fish is auctioned off. The auction this Easter is to benefit the Maraetai Coastguard who look after boaties across the Firth.
The OCBC want to keep growing the fun- family side of these fishing days, with great prizes for the Kids and Youth sections as well as the Adult categories.
Great tasting food (including the famous Orere Point mussel fritters), refreshments, raffles and spot prizes mean it is hard to not go home with a big smile. And especially so if you’ve snagged a bag of the freshest fish you could hope for and had it cleaned and filleted on site for you too.
