Greetings to all Members of the OCBC,
The disruptions from Covid mean the OCBC is not able to plan our events with any certainty, at least in the short term. Lockdowns and level limits have already seen the OCBC postpone its 2020-21 AGM and cancel the Trivia Night and the Labour Weekend fishing competition.
Looking back, the club was fortunate to have been able to run three very successful fishing competitions, plus our Over 60s Lunch and Children’s Christmas party between lockdowns. This season is not shaping up so well.
The OCBC Committee wants to give Members and our community and supporters some certainty as to club matters, plus we recognise that for many, these are really not easy times. The Committee has agreed to the following recommendations.
Events
We cancel the upcoming Over 60s Lunch and the Children’s Christmas party. We cannot be sure we can even safely meet and prepare these events let alone hold larger gatherings.
We plan to hold alternative community events when suitable dates can be found in 2022. Our Anniversary Weekend fishing competition will be decided depending on how things lie in January.
Annual Fees
The club will not charge existing Members any fees for the current season ending on 30th June, 2022. Members pay annual fees (subs & key fees) for a club year running 1st July to 30th June, and this year has been not great value so far.
Locals can still be welcomed as New Members and will need to pay the $20 New Member fee/$30 New Member Couple fee.
Boat Ramp Keys
There will be no charge in this season for existing Members with boat ramp keys. Current keys can continue to be used through to the end of this season (30th June 2022).
New keys will be made available to New Members or Members wishing to obtain a key, however with just a few of these on hand, these will be made available to locals in the first instance. The cost will be $25, and timing may depend on having additional security keys supplied.
Annual General Meeting
We want to hold our AGM as soon as we are able to do it safely and within the rules and regulations. We have looked at holding it online, but some believe that process could be unfair or difficult for a number of Members
The club needs 20 Members for an AGM quorum, and we may soon be able to gather in those numbers outside and complete the formalities.
We need to hold an AGM to approve financials and appoint officers for the new season. The Committee believe that providing Members with access to the full Club Annual Report and financials means Members have the opportunity to consider these ahead of any AGM. Ratifying the club’s financial report is likely to be the only item for business at any such AGM.
Our recognition of Community Heroes and winners of the OCBC Member fishing prizes for the 2020-21 season will be communicated to the Orere Point community through the club’s website and other channels.
OCBC Committee
The Club is always looking for enthusiastic community-minded people who love OP to bring new ideas and energy to the OCBC committee. It looks like we can’t do the nomination thing at the AGM this year, however if anyone wants to join (and there are spaces and big shoes to fill), please let any of the current committee know.
The OCBC Committee is disappointed that the club cannot celebrate the closing of what was a special season in 2020-21. Our three outstanding fishing competitions last season meant we were able to give record donations to the groups that support our community, while our events and the likes of our new market brought our community of new and old faces even closer.
Still, this sort of thing could be some sort of new normal for us, one we are all learning how to manage. Thank you all for your patience as we work our way into hopefully a brighter summer ahead.
